In the Homan League, Steve Levy maintained his 100% record with a tense win against Ben Wilkinson. It is beginning to look as if the only player with a chance of challenging Steve for the title of Club Champion will be David Archer, who notched up wins over Phil McConnell and Ben Wilkinson. Ken Ashby earned a draw against Phil McConnell thanks to a brilliant queen sacrifice; afterwards he commented: “Seeing moves like that is why I love this game so much. Yes, pity I don't see them more often, but even the miserly rate of one per season makes all the effort worthwhile!”

In the Dunleavy League, Tony Collins pulled off a surprise win over Barry Sweetman, and John Belli held league leader James Fowler to a draw. Roy Greenhalgh and Richard Thomas both moved up the table with wins over Oliver Zaffiro and Zak Zaffiro respectively. Two new club members made impressive starts in the Dunleavy: Trevor Hurt beat Noah Farrand, while Arthur Doble played impressively in his defeat by Clifford Peach.
