Press Report 16th March 2018

In the Torbay Rapidplay League, South Hams was pipped by Newton Abbot with a scoreline of 3½ - 4½. It so happened that the return fixture was a week later; South Hams were determined to get their revenge, but Newton Abbot prevailed again (this time the score was 5 - 3), thanks to a 4 - 0 clean sweep on the bottom boards. This season’s Rapidplay trophy will be going either to Plymouth or Newton Abbot.

In Division 1, South Hams lost 3½ - ½ to a very strong Torbay team, with the half point coming from an excellent draw by Steve Levy against Dominic Mackle on Board 1.

In the Homan League, Steve Levy maintained his 100% record with a win over Ken Asbhby, and James Schofield completed the “double” over Phil McConnell.

In the Dunleavy League, leader James Fowler obtained wins against both of the Zaffiro twins, while Roy Greenhalgh, the other promotion favourite, beat Oliver Zaffiro and Tony Collins. John Belli and Barry Sweetman fought out an entertaining game which ended in a draw. Richard Thomas beat Arthur Doble. However the most eye-catching result was an excellent win by new member Trevor Hurt over Dennis Russell.
