South Hams Chess Club

Press Report 13th September 2019

After a Summer of casual chess at the club the new season kicked off last week with some cracking games. Club champion Steve Levy set his stall out for the coming campaign with a win over Trevor Hurt, at one point surrounding his queen with 5 pieces. New member Dennis Cowley had to fight for the point against a much lower rated Phil McConnell. David Archer was sweating over a complex ending before finally converting against Ken Ashby. Ben Wilkinson was the notable ‘Giant Killer’ of the day, taking down new member Steve Dickinson in street fighting style. James Fowler also showed he is in the mood this year by scoring against Barry Sweetman. Cliff Peach and Alan Davies were flying the flag elsewhere by playing at the Paignton Congress, which started on 31 Aug.
