The draw for the 2020-21 competition took place as a Zoom call on Sunday 23rd August at 5pm; first round byes were allocated to the highest-graded players in such numbers to ensure that there are exactly 16 players in the second round. At the time of the draw, it was hoped that by January it would be possible to play Cookworthy Cup games over-the-board rather than online. This turned out not to be the case, and as a result several players opting not to play chess online have withdrawn from the competition.
