This week saw the start of the Torbay Chess League with our Div 4 team travelling to Teighmouth on Tues 8th to secure a 1-3 victory. A loss by Alan Davies and wins for Roy Greenhalgh, Trevor Hurt and Arthur Doble took the points. On Thur 10th newly formed club Brixham were the visitors to South Hams (Kingsbridge) to play in the first RapidPlay match of the season. Steve Levy, Ben Wilkinson and James Fowler all won their double games while David Archer dropped a point on board 2 against Mike Cuggey. This gave a final score of 7-1 to South Hams although the games were much closer than the result suggests.
Barry Sweetman continued his run in the Cookworthy Cup by beating James Fowler to progress to the Quarter Finals. In the internal leagues there was a run of form for black as Richard Thomas was outplayed by Trevor Hurt, Barry sweetman was outfoxed by Steve Dickinson and Arthur Doble was Outgunned by Phil McConnell. James Schofield bucked the trend to win with white against Roy Greenhalgh and continue his 100 percent start. He now sits at the top of the Dunleavey League.
