In a topsy turvy first half of the season so many surprise results are making the South Hams Chess Club’s Homan League look very interesting. Phil McConnell has replaced Steve Dickinson at the top of the table which is a position Steve has held since the start of the season. He remains unbeaten though after seeing off Trevor Hurt. After going through a short losing spell, Phil McConnell has bounced back with wins against James Fowler and Clifford Peach seeing him climb to top spot.
Steve Levy, club champion for the past so many years, found him fooled into a draw by James Schofield after James had a mouse slip. The players had to go onto another chess playing site and Steve allowed James from a won position swindle a draw.
Other results are David Archer beat Alan Davies and Clifford Peach drew with Arthur Doble. Online chess has downsides but it’s also great seeing so many unpredictable results and endings. At present Richard Thomas and Ken Ashby have to resume a game this week due to a lost connection from one of the players. It has to be said, the Homan League is looking the most interesting it has looked for several seasons with players who were expected to do more haven’t and those who were not have.
The chess club although very much missing its Head Quarters at the Regal Club every Thursday evening is managing to stay alive and thriving online.
