It’s been another very busy week for the online South Hams Chess Club with members trying to finish all their Homan League matches before the 24th December deadline. Part two of the Homan starts from January 1st with the same format and is open to New Members who wish to join the club.
With games being played every evening of the week there has been some topsy-turvy results. Trevor Hurt has been the on form player of the week beating Chris Willcox and Clifford Peach; while Tony Tatam has beaten Richard Thomas and drawn with Clifford Peach. Another player having good results is Quentin Thwaits winning against Chris Willcox and drawing against Clifford Peach in a much talked about game within the club. Certainly both players were amazed that Quentin escaped with a draw.
Then Arthur Doble was looking to have a won game against James Schofield, but had to settle for a draw; while James Fowler lost to Phil McConnell. Alan Davies and Clifford Peach played a quiet game and drew.
As if all the club activity wasn’t enough, Trevor Hurt has also been playing in two Devon County Chess Association Rapid Play tournaments. He is having excellent results in both and remains unbeaten in both. He has drawn all three of his games in the 25min 10sec tournament and is waiting to see who his 4th round opponent will be. In the10min 6sec section he has reached the final after drawing both his 1st round games and beating both his 2nd and 3rd opponents with both the white and black pieces. In each round both players play white and black; he will be playing Richard Bailey in the final.
