Games galore continue to be played at South Hams Chess Club, with all games being played online. James Schofield has emerged as the first player to secure his place in the final play off places for the Club Championships to be played in April 2021. One other place is yet to be confirmed in this half of the season, which will take it up to the last game of the season. The two players involved in the struggle to win this spot are Steve Levy, who didn’t have a game this week, and David Archer who beat Quentin Thwaites.
It has been a really tightly fought Homan League; other results have seen James Schofield winning a very tight game against Clifford Peach. The following evening he had an equally tough game beating Ken Ashby. Phil McConnell kept himself in the top four with a win against Chris Willcox, Trevor Hurt continued to surprise everyone with a victory against James Fowler. The only draw of the week was between Ken Ashby v Tony Tatam.
The focus has now turned to January now for part two of the Homan league where all players start from the beginning again and are playing for the final two places. This will give a four player play off and it’s expected that a turnaround could see league positions changing considerably. Although still waiting for the 2nd player from this league table, predictions are already laid out for April.
