The South Hams Chess Club started their 2021 half of the season up and running, with all games being played online, mainly keeping to Thursday nights for Homan League matches with surplus games being played Tuesday evenings.
Several players are really causing a stir, turning form upside down. James Fowler & Chris Willcox who both had disappointing results up to Christmas are now having a run of excellent results and are now holding 2nd and 3rd spots in the Homan League; with James having beaten Chris Wilcox, Ken Ashby and Alan Davies while Chris has beaten Cliff Peach, Tony Tatam, Arthur Doble and Trevor Hurt.
Club Champion Steve Levy continues to hold on to Number one slot with 5 wins from 5 games proving he’s going to be very difficult to catch. Phil McConnell and Arthur Doble also feature in the top half of the league.
Since the start of the New Year the Knockout Cookworthy Cup has taken front stage which has seen Tony Tatam and Alan Davies having to face each other in the Semi-final; while Chris Willcox has to play Quentin Thwaites for a semi- final place. David Archer waits to play the winner of the James Schofield and Steve Levy game, also, for a place in the semi-final.
