With just a month left for online Homan League matches to be played, and games rapidly running out, members of the South Hams Chess Club continue to play their games with the same enthusiasm as they started back in September.
Last week’s results saw Steve Levy continue his winning run when beating Clifford Peach to chalk up his nineteenth victory. This gives Steve a remarkable 19/19 a record that surely will never be beaten, in fact can’t be beaten. With just a few games remaining will he finish with a one hundred per cent score? I’m sure someone is determined to beat him, but chess doesn’t work like that, luck plays little part.
In other games it saw Trevor Hurt beat James Fowler, Quentin Thwaites beat Alan Davies, James Schofield win against Ken Ashby, while Tony Tatam drew against Arthur Doble. This draw put Tony two draws ahead of Clifford Peach in the club’s Drawmeister tournament for the player with the most draws throughout the season. Tony is now on twenty two.
Away from the club Trevor Hurt and Phil McConnell are playing in the Devon County Chess Association’s Spring Swiss tournament, with games being played on Wednesday evenings at the quicker rate of 10mins and a few seconds increments. Clifford Peach drew his latest game in the seven round 4 National Chess League’s Spring Congress.
