With the internal Homan Chess league now getting well into its stride at the South Hams Chess Club, last week’s results didn’t see any surprise headlines, but another great performance from Arthur Doble, having played two and lost two against the strongest players in the club. This time it was James Schofield as victor, but in both games Arthur had solid drawn positions, only a weak king move lost him the game this time around.
Other results saw Clifford Peach beating Quentin Thwaites, Steve Levy beat Trevor Hurt, Phil McConnell returning to winning ways against Tony Tatam, David Archer won against Ken Ashby while Chris Willcox beat Alan Davis.
After two weeks of games the club awaits its first draw of the season, a common feature in results of chess games, so much so the club runs an internal competition “The Drawmeister” and as yet all players are on zero.
Away from the South Hams Club, Tony Tatam and Clifford Peach played for Plymouth against Uxbridge in the 4NCL league, both players were unbeaten -Tony winning his game while Clifford drew his, but Plymouth lost the match 2½ - 1½.
Some South Hams players return to over the board games at the Regal Club. The club meets Thursday evenings and all players must be double vaccinated.
