At long last South Hams Chess Club will kick off their season playing over the board at the Regal Club, Church Street, in Kingsbridge every Thursday evening, starting at 7pm.
It should be an exciting season with some players having played very little or no chess over the board for nearly three whole years now which should show up some interesting results. Some members are still apprehensive about covid, mask and hand cleansing but this will be left up to each individual. Some members for various reasons are not returning, but with new members joining it’s all adding up to an interesting start.
Once again it’s going to be two internal leagues, Homan and Dunleavy, with promotion and relegation at Christmas time. Also a Knockout Competition will be played for the Cookworthy Cup and hopefully the Club will enter teams in the Torbay League. This of course will depend on how many members will want to play League matches. All members wanting to play internal or league games will have to be members of the English Chess Federation, ECF, this is an easy thing to do and anyone at the club will be able to help and explain how to go about it.
So, the Chess Club looks forward to welcoming any new members at the Regal Club, Thursdays, 7pm, but anyone wanting further information please ring Clifford Peach 01752 407757 or Phil McConnell 01803 834135 or checkout www.southhamschessclub.com.
