Lots of News this Week

New Member - John Belli

A warm welcome to our latest new member - John Belli. John used to play for the Islington Club (many years ago, he says), and has now retired to Devon.

Division 3

On Wednesday, the Division 3 team beat Torquay 1½ - 2½. Detailed results and a match report are available here. The Division 3 table now stands as follows.

Division 3PWDLFAPts
South Hams 8 7 0 1 23½ 14
Torquay 8 5 0 3 19 12 10
Plymouth 8 4 1 3 18 14 9
Newton Abbot 8 3 2 3 16 16 8
TBGS 7 2 0 5 17½ 4
Teignmouth 7 0 1 6 5 23 1

This means that one drawn match from our last two matches (against Teignmouth and TBGS) would be enough to secure us the Division 3 title. However if we lose both these matches, Torquay could still overhaul us on "goal difference" - so no champagne yet.

Division 2

On Thursday, the Division 2 team lost ½ - 3½ at home to Teignmouth in a mach where we were outgraded by the massive margin of 518 to 428. Details and a match report can be viewed here. As a result, the Division 2 table now looks like this:

Division 2PWDLFAPts
Newton Abbot 3 3 0 0 9 3 6
Teignmouth 4 2 0 2 9 7 4
South Hams 4 2 0 2 4
TBGS 3 0 0 3 0

Internal Leagues

In the Dunleavy League, David Archer maintained his 100% record since joining the club with a win over Tony Collins.

The two Homan League games played on Thursday both featured remarkable displays of generosity. First, Phil - in a position which he considered to be utterly hopeless and in which subsequent computer analysis assesses Cliff's advantage as +8.25 - was offered a draw by Cliff. Needless to say, Phil accepted with alacrity as well as astonishment. Then, Dennis resigned against Ben in a position which was far, far from lost. The milk of human kindness was truly overflowing in Kingsbridge that evening.

AGM and Minutes of Committee Meeting

A reminder that the AGM will take place on Thursday 30th April. After the AGM itself, Steve Levy has kindly (been) volunteered to play a "simul" against all-comers. It should be a very enjoyable evening.

The minutes of last September's AGM, and of the Committee Meeting held on 18th December, are available in a folder for all club members to peruse on club nights.
