Internal Competitions are getting very competitive early in the season, with no major surprises in either the Homan or Dunleavy, but some very long games are being played.
The game that stood out in the Homan was between Ben Wilkinson & Roy Greenhalgh. Ben is rated 25 points higher than Roy and was odds on favourite at the start, but it was he who offered the draw and seemed very relieved when Roy accepted. Other games in the Homan saw David Archer beat Chris Wilcox with Chris really having a bad day at the office; while Steve Levy beat Clifford Peach, with Clifford playing a defensive game from the start and slowly getting ground down.
In the Dunleavy League where it all seems to be happening at the moment, Phil McConnell bounced back from his defeat against a junior the previous week, to beat Tony Collins twice during the evening. This puts him top of the league; while the junior who beat him Oliver Zaffiro put in another good performance getting a draw against John Belli. James Fowler beat Zak Zaffiro, Dennis Russell beat junior Noah Farrand, but Noah gave Dennis a good run for his money. The match that took top spot was between Alan Davies and Ken Ashby. Alan, who was seemingly in a won position with his clock running down, began to panic and with every move Ken got back into the game. With both players in a sweat Alan offered a draw, which Ken accepted quickly with a firm handshake.
Every week seems to produce some mouth-watering games with the pick being Ben Wilkinson v Steve Levy, Chris Wilcox v Roy Greenhalgh, Ken Ashby v Dennis Russell and Alan Davies v Phil McConnell.
