In the Cookworthy Cup this week it was Steve Dickinson vs Ken Ashby, the latter just not being at the races for this encounter. That means that Steve goes into the Semi Final and will play Trevor Hurt. The other Semi Finalist is David Archer who awaits any one of Cliff Peach, Alan Davies or Steve Levy who have yet to fight it out for that spot.
In the Dunleavey league there was only one game this week and it was Roy Greenhalgh against David Archer. After a strong start by David the middle game evened out before Roy started a magnificent attack which had his opponent clinging to the ropes and facing certain defeat. Somehow though, in the heat of battle he threw it all away with a couple of loose moves. This lucky result leaves David Archer pulling away on 8.5 points at the top of the table, followed by Dennis Cowley and James Schofield on 7 points each, Alan Davies on 6 and Phil McConnell on 5. With James Schofield still unbeaten and Phil McConnell back from a month away they will both be looking to get their games in over the coming weeks. The lower half of the table reads Arthur Doble, Roy Greenhalgh, Ken Ashby and Tony Collins bringing up the rear.
In the Homan League Cliff Peach and Richard Thomas fought out an epic battle and although Richard had played the better of the two and had done enough to get the result he couldn't quite force it over the line and the game ended in a draw. Also in the Homan League it was the much awaited return match between James Fowler and Trevor Hurt. As expected it was a game that threw the rulebook out the window and had more twist and turns than the latest John Le Carre thriller. In the end a deserved Trevor Hurt came away the victor on the night. As it stands Steve Levy sits way out in front on 12 points. Steve Dickinson is in 2nd on 7 points, then it's a bit of a squeeze with Ben Wilkinson and James Fowler on 4 each, Trevor Hurt and Richard Thomas on 3.5 each and Cliff Peach and Barry Sweetman on 3 points each.
