South Hams Chess Club

Press Report 18th September 2020

South Hams Chess Club have started their online club Homan chess league with a flurry of results which includes several surprising result. It started with Steve Dickinson beating club champion Steve Levy which he followed up with another great result beating James Schofield. This puts him in a fantastic position for a top spot at the Christmas deadline.

David Archer is leading the Homan League with 3/3, but it is far too early to read anything into league positions at the moment as online chess is more unpredictable than over the board games. Richard Thomas sprung another surprise, beating James Fowler rated 20 points higher while Phil McConnell is also unbeaten from 2 games played. Other players who are on the points board are Alan Davis, James Fowler and Tony Tatam with Trevor Hurt, Ken Ashby, Arthur Doble and Clifford Peach looking to pick up their first points, but it’s early days.

The club are playing Thursday nights at 7pm as they did before lockdown where they used to meet at the Regal club. All players dearly miss ‘over the board’ games as much as the social aspect of club meetings. Anyone wishing to play online chess in competitions please contact Club Sec. Phil McConnell on 01803 834135 or check us out at southhamschessclub.com As it is online, anyone interested would be expected to know the basic rules and how to play.
