The South Hams Chess Club’s internal Homan League is continuing in full flow, with many games being played. It now seems Steve Levy is unstoppable with eleven wins from eleven games, although he was given a scare in his last game against Clifford Peach! Steve came out top in a four pawn end game, which for a while looked a drawn game.
Result of the week has to go to Trevor Hurt with a fantastic twenty two move win against David Archer; Trevor has pulled off many a surprise result, but this must be his best ever. Unfortunately he couldn’t bring his flair to the board in his next game against Steve Levy. Phil McConnell continues with his impressive form in beating Alan Davies. Alan just doesn’t seem to be having any luck at all with online games, playing solid chess, but results going against him. In other games it saw wins for Quentin Thwaites, Arthur Doble and Chris Willcox who is now firmly second in the Homan League with the big clash between himself and Steve Levy this coming week.
In other events away from the South Hams Club both Tony Tatam and Clifford Peach are playing for Plymouth in the 4NCL Club League. With more players than places, players are alternating places between games. Having played two games Tony helped Plymouth secure a 2-2 result getting a draw in his game and in game two Clifford also clinched a draw to give Plymouth a 2 ½ - 1 ½ win against St.Benildus from Ireland, putting Plymouth in a strong position of the Division.
This coming weekend Clifford plays in the 4NCL weekend congress so keeping the South Hams flag flying.
