With another eight games played in the last week, the online South Hams Chess Club continues an amazing run of matches in the club’s internal Homan League fixtures. Steve Levy continued his winning streak with his eighteenth win from eighteen games, when he beat Arthur Doble. In his previous game against Tony Tatam he had his luckiest escape this season when Tony, who should have got a draw at the very least, blundered when he went after the wrong pawn in the end game. At the time he was under no pressure what so ever and you don’t get chances like that against Steve very often.
David Archer is now making a serious challenge winning both his games in beating Clifford Peach and Trevor Hurt, while another top hopeful Phil McConnell beat Ken Ashby. Quentin Thwaites, who has been on form, beat Chris Willcox, which now sees Chris’ hope fading for the play offs. In the remaining Homan game James Fowler ended a losing run by getting a draw against Tony Tatam.
Away from the club playing for Plymouth in the 4 National Chess League against a strong England Deaf team, Tony Tatam won his game while Clifford Peach and Rob Wilby drew giving Plymouth a 2-2 draw, keeping them near the top of the league.
