It’s an exciting climax to the end of the pre- Christmas half of the season, with the top two players qualifying for the Homan League playoffs at the end of the season in the South Hams Chess Club.
Steve Levy is clinging on to second place by his finger nails, David Archer is in top spot with Phil McConnell in third place just a point behind Steve. Steve has had luck on his side this week, beating Trevor Hurt in an end game that looked drawn for a long period. David Archer continued his late challenge with two wins against Ken Ashby and James Schofield, while Phil McConnell kept in touch with the leaders beating Ken Ashby.
One player who has really missed out is Ben Wilkinson, who is the only player on 100% with 7/7 but he’s just not going to be able to catch the leaders because of not having time to play his remaining games, but this week he beat Alan Davies. Other results saw Clifford Peach draw against James Fowler, Arthur Doble winning against Trevor Hurt, Richard Thomas winning against Ken Ashby while Tony Tatam drew against the club’s early front runner Chris Wilcox.
The next week has some very important games that will decide the top two places for sure, December 23rd being the final play by date.
