Review of the 2025-26 Season
The main internal club competitions were
- the Homan League - an "all play all twice" competition to determine the Club Champion
- the Coockworthy Cup - a knockout competition with the draw made at random.
Homan League
Since Steve Levy re-joined the Club in 2015, he has either won the Club Championshoip outright or shared that honour with David Archer - apart from the 2024-25 season when James Scholied was our Champion. In 2025-26, normal service was resumed, and Steve comfortably won the Homan League. Many congratulations to Steve.
Cookworthy Cup
Steve also won the Cookworthy Cup, beating Phil McConnell, Cathy Black and (in the final) Trevor Hurt. Congratulations to Steve.
The trophies were presented by Alan Davies (Club Chairman) at the AGM on 4th June.
Torbay Chess League
In the Torbay Chess League, South Hams finished fourth (and last!) in Division 1, which was won by Newton Abbot Abbots. South Hams did not enter teams in Division 2 (won by Teignmouth), Divison 3 (won by Newton Abbot) or Division 4 (won by Plymouth). In the Rapidplay, Newton Abbot dominated with the "Knights" pipping the "Pawns" on "goal difference" while Torquay Boys' Grammar School and South Hams tied for 3rd place.. In the Knockout competition, South Hams lost by 2½ - 3½ to Plymouth in a tense and closely-fought final.
