South Hams Chess Club fields a team in Division 4 of the Torbay Chess League.  This entails home and away matches against Devonport High School, Newton Abbot and Torquay Boys' Grammar School. Games played in the TCL are submitted to the ECF grading database.

In this division, teams consist of four players, with a team rating limit of Under 6000. There is also an individual rating limit of 1600.  The rate of play is

  • For matches against Newton Abbot: 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move (starting from move 1)
  • For matches against the schools (Devonport HS and TBGS): 35 moves in 75 minutes followed by a 15 minute Quick Play finish.

The away team has white on the odd-numbered boards.

We had a default win on board #4.
We then had a clean sweep and won on the top 3 boards.
Well done us.
I think that makes us Div4 champs and it could be that both Tony T and Alan D, jointly win the individual player for our division with 3 wins each!
